Resolving Pain or Injury

Most people don't realize that pain and injury are related to postural issues and muscular imbalances.  When certain muscles are weak or tight it distorts our posture. Poor posture is a major contributor to chronic pain and makes us more vulnerable to injury.

Physical Patterns

We all have physical patterns in the way we stand, sit and move and these patterns form the structure of our muscles, fascia and even bones. I help people become aware of unconscious habitual postural patterns that cause wear and tear and subsequent pain in the body.

With increased self awareness, time and practice you can shift the way you hold your body from pain patterns to more optimal patterns that offer relief and healing.

Through subtle adjustments in the way you stand, sit and move you can correct muscle imbalances for better body alignment. This develops greater proprioception and balancing muscle groups through targeted strengthening and stretching.

Optimal Blue Print

Every body has an optimal postural blueprint that facilitates healing, balances mobility and strength and improves performance.

Understanding what this is, how to come into it and what you need to do to maintain it, is a nuanced process. It is very hard to see our own unconscious patterns, because it is what we are used to, even if those patterns are causing us pain and injury.

Personalized Fitness Routine

Guidance for a personalized fitness routine

A personalized fitness routine is better than an in depth personalized strength training class because it is tailored specifically to your needs.

Many people don't know what to do to get in better shape or are stuck in a fitness rut; doing too much of one thing and not enough of another. A balanced fitness routine has different components that work together to up level your overall health and performance.

This process requires developing and balancing multiple muscle groups through strength training and mobility practices, cardiovascular fitness, and rest. The specifics of how you go about it are very individual. It depends on your goals, how much time you have, what you enjoy doing and what you need the most.

If you only focus on certain areas while neglecting others this can lead to injury. For example, some people need more strength training while others need a mobility routine as a balance to overworked muscles. Still others need to get moving, sweat and get their heart rate up.

I help people determine what they need, set clear goals and create a plan so they know what to do and how to do it well.

Accountability

For many people its hard to get and stay on track. An important part of personal training is the accountability and camaraderie that help in creating a consistent routine.

Prioritizing the the time to take care of yourself is a hurdle for many people. Setting yourself up for success includes having the support and strategies you need to follow through.

When you work with me, the program, clarifying what motivates you and my personal guidance help to create a container for your success.

Stress Reduction and Managing Anxiety

Simply moving your body more helps to reduce stress. Yoga offers this and so much more - it’s like a stress management training session!

Although it seems like we should just know how to relax, learning constructive ways of managing stress and anxiety are essential in our modern world, like breathing exercises for yoga.

Stress is the cause of 75% or more doctors visits and contributes to many common medical conditions like digestive issues, poor sleep, depression and anxiety.

It can become a habit to chronically hold tension in our bodies and over time this accumulation becomes like a toxic load both physically and mentally.

Combining certain yoga postures, breath practices, meditation positions, and grounding meditation techniques helps release held tension in both our body and our mind.

Just as yoga addresses unconscious physical patterns in the body that generate pain, it also addresses unconscious mental and emotional patterns that cause suffering.

Different breath practices and meditation techniques are proven means of flipping our nervous system from fight or flight to rest and digest.

Improving Scoliosis

Every body is asymmetrical. Scoliosis can exaggerate this and get worse over time causing pain, arthritis and spinal degeneration.  This can limit your ability to do the things you love.

Personal training using specific yoga postures, strength training and breath work can counter the pattern of your scoliotic curves to create greater symmetry and relief.

Studies have shown that certain actions done on only one side of the body help to strengthen the weaker side of your curve (or curves) resulting in reduced curvature, better posture and less pain. Through a targeted and on going routine you can decrease your scoliotic curves substantially.

In addition, asymmetrical breathing is another way to counter your curves creating space and symmetry in the body and less wear and tear.

There is a great deal you can do through a personalized program to improve your posture and decrease your scoliosis. Greater awareness of body positioning, asymmetrical strength practices and specific breathing techniques together, help to improve self understanding of what you can do to decrease the negative impacts of scoliosis.

Energizing a Practice

Energizing a stagnant practice or starting a new one

Stuck in a rut in your home yoga practice?

Do you find yourself doing the same things or not practicing at all?

Personal Training will help evaluate what will bring you more into balance, help you to feel more confident to try new things and deepen your relationship to your practice.

Rekindle that spark of inspiration that drew you to your yoga practice and bring it up to date with what you need now from your time on the mat.

Are you intimidated to start a home yoga practice or unsure of what to do?

Watching youtube videos and following along can be a great way to practice. But, it is limited in that you never get any fed back.

Often times people are just reinforcing unhealthy patterns instead of countering them through greater self awareness. There is no substitute for working in person with a skilled yoga teacher.

I will help you understand the specifics of what you need to work on and guide you in refining your alignment so you will get the most out of your home practice with out causing harm or injury.
